Trauma is not a legacy
*Refuge is a series of digital abstractions which subvert and deconstruct slave ship diagrams. Societal narratives of the African American experience define my ancestors by the circumstances of enslavement. Trauma is not a legacy. My art offers an opportunity to heal the past by celebrating the beauty and immense humanity of those who came before me. Each day I exercise freedoms in their honor.
