The Language of humanity Workshop
Cut through the noise of what people and society expect you to be.
Who do you believe you are? Has your sense of self, your story, been imposed onto you by others?
The Language of Humanity workshop will help you not only recognize false stories but learn to detach from them. You will practice prioritizing your supreme humanity.
Here's how it works: This in-person workshop will meet on a Saturday and Sunday for 3 1/2 hour sessions on each day. You will question what you believe about who you are. You will practice identifying stories that don’t belong to you. I will help you rewrite a narrative that is grounded in your human self.
Unique works of art will serve as prompts to guide the process of discovery.
Groups are limited to 10 participants. All humans are welcome.
I also offer virtual one-on-one coaching as well as in-person group workplace experiences.
Art Is the Bridge to New Ideas
Why Labels?
Art helps us think and talk about humanity in unconventional ways. Artist William Pope.L pokes fun at the cultural labels which categorize and define human beings. His use of absurdity deflates the power of rigid societal codes.

Humanity Stories
“I found myself reflecting on a guest artist talk Sharyll Burroughs gave in one of my freshman classes..., how she described herself as being completely unattached to a racial label, largely influenced by her Buddhist practice. I remember being taken aback by this sentiment, it having felt like a betrayal of a collective bipoc solidarity. But although I may not fully want to detach from the kinship that I do feel with others under this artificial moniker of "Asian," I believe that I am starting to understand where she is coming from...”
– S.Z., Artist
"I am grateful to have participated because Sharyll is supremely insightful. In art, writing and life, it’s vital to explore our humanity in order to begin to see things clearly, to tell an honest story, to know who we are, and who we can be."
Felicity Fenton, Life Coach/Writer
"Experiencing Sharyll's workshop has been illuminating and life-affirming, instructive and inspiring. In both her life and her work, she underscores the value of individualism and humanity. I'm moved by her ability to permit and encourage conversation around difficult yet meaningful topics."
Beth Harrington, Documentary Filmmaker
For the past ten years I have facilitated humanity/identity group dialogues in venues such as the Portland Art Museum, the New School NYC, and in galleries and public/private spaces. My art has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, and Los Angeles, CA. I have practiced Buddhism and meditation for 20 years.
I attended the Santa Monica College of Design, Art, and Architecture, founded by MacArthur Fellow Joan Abrahamson.
I’d love to hear your story!
